Bodyplethysmography chamber is a comfortable facility for measurement of lung volume and airways resistance. This method guarantees high accuracy, speed and repeatability of results and reduces the need of patient's co-operation. Lung test system uses a method of constant volume plethysmography. The device measures pressure changes initiated with movements of patient's chest. An accurate pneumatach headpiece and a fast flow closing valve constructed by MES, as well as a chamber with stable thermal parameters are components of a high class device. The software contains original algorithms compensating a change from ATP to BTPS without necessity of using breath bags.

RRS-respiratory resistance (occlusion method)
Respiratory resistance is measured with occlusion method. Air flow is interrupted with a closing rotary valve which closes at the beginning of inspiration (or expiration) and opens in 100, 150, 200, or 250 ms, as required. Pressure is measured at the level of the oral cavity and air flow is measured behind the closing valve.

Compliance-static and dynamic
Lung compliance is calculated at the basis of simultaneous recording of changes in volume and intrapulmonary pressure. Volume changes are recorded with a pneumotach headpiece and intrapulmonary pressure is defined indirectly by measurement of oesophagus pressure.

Oesophagus pressure is measured
Diffusion capacity is determined with a single breath method with the use of carbon oxide. The test determines lung capacity to transfer gas from alveoli to blood. A patient inhales gas mixture containing 0,3% CO and 10% He and holds breath for a time. The held gas deeply penetrates the lungs and diffuses to blood through the walls of capillary vessels. The closed exhalatory valve closes the volume between the lungs and the measuring headpiece. When the valve is opened, a patient exhales the gas to a bag. The bag content is analysed by gas analysers. Test results are shown in a table and compared with standard values. The advantage of this method is that a patient inhales only a little CO and the test may be repeated after 20-30 minutes.MES diffusion headpiece contains a pneumatic controlled set of valves, allows for fast and easy dismounting, thus facilitating keeping the device clean.
